Wordpress.com urdu blog

Wordpess.com is a popular blogging platform, which let user create a blog free of cost but free blogs on wordpress.com do not let user make changes into their themes. Almost all themes on wordpress.com are made for latin based or left to right languages and does not suit for urdu which is right to left language, also fonts specified in most themes are not able to show urdu correctly, so how to create an urdu blog on wordpress.com platform?

This can be achieved partially by editing your post in HTML and specifying correct formatting for urdu, here are the steps to follow for posting in urdu.

When on "Add new Post" page, select HTML, it is very important here not to go back to "Visual"  tab after this, if you do, you will lose all the formatting and need to edit the post again in HTML view.

Now wrap your post or better approach is to wrap each paragraph of the post separately with following  formatting.
<p style="direction: rtl; font-family: 'Alvi lahori Nastaleeq ','Jameel Noori Nastaleeq','Urdu Naskh Asiatype',Arial,Tahoma; font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.5em; text-align: right;">write your entire post or paragraph here and at the end close the HTML tag</p>
So, first step is  to select HTML option on posting page and not to go back, second step is to associate correct formatting for Urdu. Just by these two steps you can have great looking Urdu blog on wordpress.com.

P.S > Above instructions are good if you already blog in English and do not want to change layout to Urdu but still want to post something in Urdu script, with out changing layout.

  1. There is a much easier method.
All you have to do is to got to HTML panel and then write:

    <*****f**o**n**t f**ace="Jameel Noori Nastaleeq" size="5">
    just one word
    <***/***f**o**n**t >
and then go to visual panel and write your entire post. That's it!

I put * just to let the comment section here to publish it.
Don't mind * in the HTML codes.

  3. Hello Usman and welcome to the blog, HTML tag font face is deprecated and in near future will be obsolete, that is why instead of using font face we better make use of styles, which again is better choice.
Based on your provided code, i'll advise you to atleast use all above fonts as face, just try looking at your blog on a computer which does not have Jameel noori font installed on it, and you will see what I'm talking about.
you can still use face tag if you want to but atleast choose multiple fonts, in case end user doesn't have one of them and still can see urdu correctly.

  4. Again Instruction provided above were meant for those english bloggers, who blog in english mostly and want to have or turn their blog multi lingual.
Wordpress have made enormous changes into their backend and made it much easier for users who just want to blog in urdu alone, I'm going to write a short post about it, in that case all they have to do is choose right font family, every thing else is taken care of by wordpress itself.

  5. Oops....if it is going obsolete then..a bad news for me. I am eagerly waiting for your next post for Urdu bloggers. I prefer to write my post in visual panel once I have made the codes in HTML panel. But now I have to see how the things work with new codes.
As for your advice about Nastaleeq font, you are right. But I can't get over my obsession with Nastaleeq font. I just love typing in Jameel Noori Nastaleeq font only. But I will try doing some experiment in future.

  6. you can always use Microsoft Word for posting urdu posts to your wordpress blogs .. it keeps the formating intact .... just dont try to edit it using wordpress.com website instead use MS Word to reedit and post. I have been using it for quite some time now http://samanathon.com/publish-to-wordpress-from-microsoft-word-2007/

Its mentioned for word 2007 but also works in previous version

For configuring Word with wordpress follow the tutorial here

  13. Thanks Paul, yet again great WordPress blog. I've already used JetEngine to pull Repeater fields from ACF, but this one gives another perspective how to use CPT. Especially love the samples, Pantera rocks.
