Wordpress.com Urdu blog 2

I've checked wordpress.com after 4 years, and amazed by the fact now wordpress users have much better control over their themes from dashboard, it is now more easy to create blog in right to left languages or any language in that matter, just by following few steps.

If you want to create a blog primarily in Urdu language, sign up at wordpress.com, when you logged into your account, on left side menu go to appearnce tab and choose any template you want to use for your blog, be sure to choose a template that has rtl-language-support.

In next step you will have to go to Settings tab on left side menu in your dashboard, in sub-menu of Settings select general and at the bottom of the page choose Urdu as blog's language, by selecting this option blog will be able to show Urdu from right side automatically, all we need after this is give proper font to our posts.

When you ready to write your first post, follow this step. When on "Add new Post" page, select HTML, it is very important here not to go back to "Visual" tab after this, if you do, you will lose all the formatting and need to edit the post again in HTML view.

Now wrap your post or better approach is to wrap each paragraph of the post separately with following formatting.
<p style="font-family: 'Alvi lahori Nastaleeq ','Jameel Noori Nastaleeq','Urdu Naskh Asiatype',Arial,Tahoma; font-size: 16px;">write your entire post or paragraph here and at the end close the HTML tag</p>

That is all, pretty much easy compared to good old days, comments, layout and text direction is all taken care of by selecting language of the blog, I hope in future wordpress.com might use correct Urdu fonts also by default. Happy Blogging.

  1. Thanks for this post. I am running my blog with that rtl & Urdu option from day one.
Just a short question. In what font my writing will show up if I use your given code? Let's assume I have downloaded all of the given fonts.

  2. Usman, it will display fonts as they are described in style i.e first Alvi Nastaleeq, if you do not have that installed on your computer then it will be second one which is Jameel Nastaleeq and so on.
Last two fonts Tahoma and Arial are installed on almost every computer and are capable of displaying urdu text correctly, not Nastaleeq but text won't break and user would be able to read urdu.

In short, Yes your blog will be in readable text on almost every computer on planet.
